Dagbani Wikimedians User Group Holds an End-Of-Year Get-Together and Awards Ceremony
January 16, 2024
On the evening of Saturday, December 23, 2023, Dagbani Wikimedians User Group hosted an end-of-year get-together and awards ceremony. The occasion marked the end of a year full of commitment, teamwork, and noteworthy accomplishments within the active Dagbani Wikimedians User Group communities.
The programme held at UDS Guest House in Dungu brought together some community members from the five communities (Dagbani, Gurene, Kusaal, Dagaare, and Moore). The night started with an opening prayer from a community member and a welcome address from the project manager of the user group, Mr. Rasheed Yussif. He also introduced the team members from the five communities. Members of the various communities who were present also had the opportunity to introduce themselves.
The Year-in-Review Presentation, delivered by co-leaders from various communities, provided a comprehensive overview of the year's activities, achievements, and challenges, as well as their plans for 2024. Mr. Daniel Abugre Anyorigya presented on behalf of the Gurene community, Mr. Zakaria Tunsung on behalf of Dagaare, Mr. Rafiu Fusieni on behalf of Moore, Mr. Isaac Awinimi on behalf of Kusaal, and Mr. Fuseini Mugisu Suhiyini on behalf of Dagbani. The challenges that cut across the communities during the presentation were members not having internet access to aid in active editing and the plea to increase the number of editors for the various communities. There was a cultural display by the Tahama Cultural Group, which is a dance group based in Tamale.
We had representatives from some of our partner organisations (Sagani TV, LDP, and DTA) who have helped us carry out our work in 2023 successfully. They gave their solidarity messages and pledged to continue to support us in any way they could to help us put our languages on the map.
The main activity for the night was awarding the active editors from the five communities. The award categories include Best Male Wikimedian of the Year for each community; Best Female Wikimedian of the Year for each community; and Overall Wikimedian of the Year.
